About the event

Join us for this month’s Char Talk as we explore the rapidly evolving landscape of biochar certification and carbon market integration with Simon Manley, Director of CDR at Sylvera, the leading carbon data platform.

Simon brings extensive experience from more than 15 years in the biochar industry, pioneering projects globally and developing small-scale biochar production equipment for agricultural and high-value horticultural markets. He also led the consortium behind VM0044—Verra's groundbreaking methodology for Biochar Utilization in Soil and Non-Soil Applications. Currently, Simon directs Sylvera’s Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) team, creating robust frameworks to rate biochar projects, guiding investors and buyers in the voluntary carbon market.

He’ll discuss:

  • The importance of rigorous ratings and assessments for biochar projects

  • Navigating certification complexities, financing hurdles, and evolving policy frameworks

  • Leveraging project assessments to attract investment and maximize market value

  • Real-world case studies on optimizing methodologies and risk mitigation

  • How third-party ratings can strategically scale biochar deployment and amplify commercial impact

Join us on Friday, May 23 at 12 PM CST to discover how biochar projects can strategically leverage assessments to succeed in a competitive carbon removal landscape. If you can't attend, a recording, transcript, and presentation materials will be shared afterward.
