Curious about biochar and how it can be used to improve agricultural soils?
On Sept. 16, see biochar production in action during an on-farm demonstration and field walk at Fable Farmstead and Wolfe’s Neck Center. The day will include a demonstration of how biochar is produced, a discussion about its use in agriculture and visits to on-farm biochar trials.

Please join American Farmland Trust and Mobile Biochar Systems for one or both of our upcoming on-farm biochar production demonstration and field walk events. During both of these events, we will explore biochar as an option for increasing soil nutrient and water holding capacity, and learn how mobile pyrolysis units can produce biochar from feedstock generated on the farm.
The field walk will feature a biochar trial funded by NRCS and conducted by AFT and the host farms - Lemieux’s Orchard and Wolfe's Neck. The demonstration will allow a live and up-close look at the workings of a mobile, small scale pyrolysis unit. We’ll start up the pyrolysis unit, visit the trial, and then return to look at the finished product. Participants will be able to see many samples of biochar, including the product used for the trial, and biochar produced on the farm. At Fable Farmstead we will also discuss the role biochar may play as a strategy for PFAS mitigation.
