Join us for a hands-on Biochar Demonstration at Westwood Hills Nature Center. This event highlights how biochar can be created from invasive buckthorn using flame-cap kilns.
What to Expect:
Live Demonstration: Great River Greening (GRG) staff will operate two kilns—an Oregon kiln and a Ring of Fire kiln—to process buckthorn into biochar.
Step-by-Step Guidance: Participants will learn the full kiln process, from loading and ignition to quenching.
Expert Insights: GRG staff will be on site to answer questions and share information about biochar, its environmental benefits, and the science behind flame-cap technology.
